Healthy & Happy Feet

True beauty is what naturally arises from simple acts of reverent self-care. When you undertake your daily health and hygiene routines with the knowledge that you are a precious, unique manifestation of life’s energy, you embody Lakṣmī’s (goddess of wealth and good fortune) spirit.

Feet are the foundation of our body. They carry us through our entire life. Caring for our feet is important, something that is often neglected by most of us.

As per Ancient Ayurveda (आयुर्वेद) foot care benefits not only our feet but also our entire nervous system and body.

Ayurveda (आयुर्वेद) is an ancient Indian system of health and longevity. It is believed to be the sister science to Yoga.

In the Veda, the feet are referred to as “organs of action.” They are the body’s foundation, structured to support its weight and provide a mobile platform in a variety of terrains.

Problems in our feet can easily creep into other parts of the body and weaken our overall health and sense of well-being.

According to the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), “Your feet mirror your general health. Such conditions as arthritis, diabetes, nerve and circulatory disorders can show their initial symptoms in the feet—so foot ailments can be your first sign of more serious medical problems.”

Ayurveda (आयुर्वेद) is world's oldest holistic healing system. It emphasizes on good health and prevention/ treatment of the illness through lifestyle changes. It teaches us the value and technique of massage, meditation, yoga, and diet.

The chapter that teaches us foot massage and care is called "Padabhyanga" (पादाभ्यंग)

Padabhyanga (पादाभ्यंग) is a Sanskrit term which is made using two words:

  1. Pada (पद) : Foot

  2. Abhyanga (अभ्यंग) : Massage

Ayurvedic self-care practices are designed to support the healthy functioning of your skin, hair, eyes and feet. These practices will kindle your radiance from head to toe.

Ayurvedic Foot massage (पादाभ्यंग) is traced back to over 5000 years and even today this age old tradition is followed by children to massage their parents' legs and feet as a symbol of service, humility and love.

Ayurvedic foot massage and care offers many benefits:

  • nourishes the skin

  • reduces the fungal and bacterial infections

  • soothes an agitated mind

  • improves the blood circulation in body

  • relieves muscle and ligament contraction

  • eases pain

  • helps in getting a peaceful sleep

The 4 Key factors in foot care:

The Right Foot Wear

The easiest tip for caring for your feet, is to wear comfortable shoes.

Many foot problems start just because the toes are too cramped, the heels are too high, or there’s no supportive arch in your shoes.

With so many options for comfortable, supportive shoes these days, the investment in good shoes is worth it.

Whether at home or at work, right foot wear will comfort you.

The Foot Bath

For tired feet and hard skin, a foot soak can do wonders. Warm water stimulates your feet and your whole body and softens your skin. The aromas of herbs and bath salts provide relaxation through the sense of smell.

The Essential Herbal Oils

The essential oils can have many different benefits, such as weakening certain viruses and strengthening the immune system to soothing feelings of anxiety. Essential oils can also be a powerful way to help you relax and sleep better, particular if you use lavender.

The Foot Massage

It is a core tradition in Ayurveda. Ayurvedic foot massages can create a greater sense of general wellbeing. By rubbing your feet, you "massage" your whole body. It helps with detoxification, balances emotions, and improves blood circulation.

Many spiritual traditions believe the body and soul are connected to - and even embodied in - the soles of the feet.

At Organiq Living we always take inspiration from our ancient traditions, medicines, rituals and work towards adding sustainable factors in it.

Keeping the Padabhyanga (पादाभ्यंग) in mind, we worked with our Rural Artisans of Bangladesh and have made comfort footwear for home. Braided Jute, Cotton and Hemp Slippers.

Care for yourself and your body, your authentic beauty reflects in your skin.
